Glossary Samples

  • Acid: a substance which releases hydrogen ions when dissolved in water. Most acids will dissolve the common metals and will react with a base to form a neutral salt and water. (see pH)
  • Biocorrosion: see Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion.
  • Cathode: the electrode of an electrolytic cell at which reduction is the principal reaction. Electrons flow toward the cathode in the external circuit.
