Precautions

Whether using a commercially available rust remover or some other cleaning method, the following precautions must be observed.

  • Test cleaning materials on an isolated or hidden area to guarantee that the desired results are achieved and that no damage or discoloration will occur as a result of the product's use.
  • Follow all manufacturers' specifications for product use and preparation.
  • Do not mix chemical compounds. Some cleaners may react with other solutions, creating toxic or poisonous vapors.
  • Remove cleaners thoroughly.
  • When working with toxic or caustic substances, wear protective clothing.
  • When grinding, sanding or chipping corrosion by-products, always use appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, protective clothing and gloves, and ear protection.
  • Use the proper tools for the cleaning job at hand, and use these tools in a safe and proper manner.
