Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has issued a new general applicability rule, which allows pipeline operators the option of increasing their maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) to 80% if they meet certain design, construction, inspection, operational, and maintenance standards. Under this new rule, qualifying pipelines will benefit from increased energy capacity and efficiency without diminishing safety.

The 80% Rule is a reflection of the significant improvements in steel pipe manufacturing, metallurgy, coatings, and assessment tools and standards that have reduced the risk of corrosion and other defects in materials that can lead to pipeline failures over time.

This conference investigates the 80% Rule, and the preservation of our existing pipeline infrastructure. Implementing corrosion control technologies/strategies is critical to ensuring the safety and efficiencies of U.S. pipelines.

Why should you attend?

  • Learn the benefits of the 80% Rule:
    • Increases in pipeline capacity and fuel efficiency
    • Reductions in incident consequences
    • Reductions in adverse environmental impacts
    • Reductions in capital expenditures on compressors for new pipelines
  • Find out how the new general applicability rule will affect your company’s operations and your job
  • Reduce corrosion risks and other defects affecting pipeline integrity and safety through new technologies and mitigations practices discussed
  • Stay current with the standards and regulations on pipeline materials, assessment tools, and maintenance practices
  • Build new partnerships through networking to learn how others are implementing this regulation

Who should attend?

  • Owners/operators of pipelines
  • Pipeline integrity engineers
  • Managers of corrosion control
  • Corrosion engineers
  • Compliance specialists
  • Department of Transportation compliance engineers

With registration to the PIMS conference, participation in the Pipeline Integrity Web Series in January 2010 is FREE (a $200 value).
