Corrosion Bowl

  DoD Conference 2011 Corrosion Bowl

Corrosion is a serious DoD cost and readiness issue accounting for $22.5 billion dollars annually in labor and materiel. The DoD is constantly seeking new and better materiel and processes to reduce the negative effects of corrosion on DoD equipment and infrastructure.

An important input to this endeavor is the generation of new ideas at education institutions, the cross-flow of those ideas, and student motivation to work in the field of corrosion prevention and control. Created to recognize educational efforts in combatting corrosion and to foster further shared intellectual activity in this area, NEW this year is the Department of Defense Corrosion Bowl Award.

This is the highest DoD award for collaborative efforts by a research team from two or more universities in meeting DoD needs in corrosion prevention and control through unique and innovative research that develops or leads to the use of better testing, analysis, materiel, processes, assessments, or designs for corrosion prevention and control.

This award will be presented biennially at the DoD Corrosion Conference, beginning in 2011. To be eligible for the award, the research must be a student collaborative activity of two or more accredited universities, be applicable to the DoD, and be presented by the research team at the poster session of the biennial DoD Corrosion Conference.

The documents below outline award instructions, provide details for eligibility, evaluation factors, submission of award nomination packages, selection procedures, and a template for presentation.
